« Protecting My Environment | Main | The Dreams in Adoption »

October 30, 2009

I only enjoyed Halloween as a kid for the candy. It was always such a hassle to find a costume that I was comfortable in. I remembered my adoptive mom always wanted me to dress up as a clown. Aside from the fact that clowns freak me out, they're perceived as humorous forms of entertainment. Clowns make people laugh, do silly or stupid things, are awkward, funnily dressed. People make fun of them. And being made fun of is something that I was no stranger to as a kid. Simply being asian in a predominantly caucasian neighborhood got me plenty of negative attention. I didn't need a costume to make others laugh or to be made fun of. Just being myself was enough. I always felt best going dressed up as a cat... it was an easy costume, people didn't laugh at me, and race didn't matter.
